Leftover Salmon
Leftover Salmon

Leftover Salmon

The band now features a lineup that has been together longer than any other in Salmon history and is one of the strongest the legendary band has ever assembled. Built around the core of founding members Drew Emmitt and Vince Herman, the band is now powered by banjo-wiz Andy Thorn, and driven by the steady rhythm section of bassist Greg Garrison, drummer Alwyn Robinson, and dobro player & keyboardist Jay Starling.

The current lineup is continuing the long, storied history of Salmon which found them first emerging from the progressive bluegrass world and coming of age as one the original jam bands, before rising to become architects of what has become known as Jamgrass and helping to create a landscape where bands schooled in the traditional rules of bluegrass can break free of those bonds through nontraditional instrumentation and an innate ability to push songs in new psychedelic directions live.

Salmon is a band who for more than thirty years has never stood still; they are constantly changing, evolving, and inspiring. If someone wanted to understand what Americana music is they could do no better than to go to a Leftover Salmon show, where they effortlessly glide from a bluegrass number born on the front porch, to the down-and-dirty Cajun swamps with a stop on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, to the hallowed halls of the Ryman in Nashville, before firing one up in the mountains of Colorado.

Daniel Donato's Cosmic Country

Daniel Donato's Cosmic Country

There are a lot of musical influences and sources that Daniel Donato has drawn on during his career and that inform Reflector (Retrace Music), the Nashville guitarist-singer-songwriter-band leader's first all-original album. But within those Donato has carved out a unique and individualized spot for himself, one that speaks to the deep American music heritage that inspires him -- and that he's pushing towards the future with inspired, intentional vigor.

He calls it Cosmic Country, a moniker that's both self-descriptive and a statement of purpose. It's an organic rock band aesthetic with plenty of roadhouse twang, a showcase for Donato's instrumental virtuosity and facility for melodically infectious songcraft. Bridging Nashville and the Great West, Kentucky and mid-60s northern California, tie-dye and plaid, it's a world of his own, and wide world of musical adventure at that.

"I think Cosmic Country is a tale as old as time, really," Donato explains. "It's yin and yang in a musical form. It's three chords and the truth, and then on the other side it's exploration and bravery. I really went through a lot of years of grinding, and still am, to achieve this sound which is a vehicle for my personality, and the personality is a vehicle for my soul. So (Reflector) is more that than any other record I ever put out."

Shovels and Rope

Shovels and Rope

Less means more. That’s kind of always how it’s been with us. This time the rules were simple: we can only use what we work with live and whatever we put down on tape must be accomplishable on a stage in a live setting. That’s always seemed to be when we’re at our best. Or most twitchy. Many times we’ve made records that we loved and then, after figuring out how we’d perform it live, we end up falling in love with the live arrangement because being a 2 piece band it took some real risk and struggle which led to innovation which gave it a whole new life. (Consider the tortured grape.) So with this one we just started there and worked backwards. The result encapsulates, more than anything we’ve done before, the sound of our live performance. Resulting in what one might consider by definition, a definitive album.

Neal Francis

Neal Francis

The latest album from Neal Francis, Return To Zero, emerged from the kind of visionary fever dream that only the most masterful and inventive artists are capable of bringing to life. Amid a grueling tour schedule that found him playing nearly 400 shows from 2021 to 2024, the Chicago-based singer/songwriter/pianist immersed himself in creating a beautifully strange entangling of timeless rock & roll and ’70s-era dance music, merging supremely heavy guitar riffs with lush and pulsating grooves—all constructed sans digital programming, in keeping with his devotion to all things analog. Worlds away from the glitzy fantasia of archetypal disco, Return To Zero inhabits a far moodier atmosphere and ultimately makes for the most thrilling manifestation of Francis’ peerless musicality yet.

The Brothers Comatose

The Brothers Comatose

The Brothers Comatose are a roots-infused bluegrass band known for their infectious blend of Americana, folk, and traditional bluegrass. Based in San Francisco, California, the band has developed a reputation for their high-energy performances, heartfelt songwriting, and impressive musicianship. Founded in 2008 by brothers Ben and Alex Morrison, the group features a lineup of talented musicians whose core of their sound is defined by tight harmonies, virtuosic string instrumentation, and a foot-stomping, back-porch spirit.

In 2024, the band welcomed multi-instrumentalist Addie Levy into the fold, adding a new layer of depth and dynamic to their sound. As a mandolin player and singer, Levy's contribution brought a fresh energy and a new dimension to the band's harmonies, seamlessly blending with the Morrison brothers' voices while enhancing their already distinctive bluegrass stylings. Her presence not only broadened the band's musical range but also enriched their live performances, creating an even more compelling and cohesive sound.

The Brothers Comatose’s sound draws from a variety of influences, including old-time bluegrass, country, and rock, but they make it uniquely their own with a modern twist and a strong emphasis on storytelling. Their songs often delve into themes of love, loss, adventure, and the human experience, all while maintaining an upbeat, rollicking energy that keeps fans coming back for more.

The band has earned praise for their live shows, which are marked by their lively stage presence and infectious enthusiasm. Whether performing intimate club shows or festival mainstages, The Brothers Comatose deliver an unforgettable experience that showcases their deep passion for music and performance.

Steve Poltz (Solo // In The Round)

Steve Poltz (Solo // In The Round)

It might’ve even been last night, but Steve Poltz just played the greatest show of his life. Guess what?
The next show will be even greater, making that show the greatest show of his life.
Are you starting to notice a trend?
He isn’t shy about it either.

Even after most likely thousands of shows (but who’s counting?), he hits the stage with the same amount of energy and always makes sure to declare, “This is the greatest show of my life.”

It’s why he’s quietly emerged as the kind of live phenomenon celebrated passionately by a diehard fanbase worldwide and renowned as a festival favorite everywhere from Bluesfest in Byron Bay and High Sierra Music Festival in California and Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado to Cayamo Cruise (where he actually got married). It’s why his music has crept into pop culture via collaborations with everyone from Jewel and Billy Strings to Molly Tuttle, Sierra Hull, Nicki Bluhm, Oliver Wood, and even the late Mojo Nixon. It’s why after over a dozen albums, he’s still creatively firing on all cylinders and critically acclaimed by the likes of Rolling Stone, Associated Press, Billboard, and many more.

Anna Moss (Artist at Large)

Anna Moss (Artist at Large)

With the world outside her window rapidly unraveling into chaotic madness, Anna Moss found herself holed up alone in her New Orleans home during 2020’s unprecedented global pandemic. Frozen in a state of paralyzing panic, crippling anxiety, and isolation, she was armed with only a guitar, and the voices in her head. A working musician her entire adult life, touring gigs and studio sessions had suddenly screeched to a harrowing halt.

Online, friends and fans sparred feverishly, screaming at each other and into the ether, while the realities and insecurities of her precarious situation sent the singer/multi-instrumentalist spiraling into a deep depression.

Manifested from the nadir of her own darkness and demoralization, Moss mined a medicinal muse from within, incessantly writing on guitar and rediscovering her salvation in song. Intimate, delicate, dreamy, messy, a flurry of new tunes began to flow freely, slowly liberating Anna from the suffocating clutches of her own despair. Emerging from the ashes of this traumatic, dehumanizing spell: a phoenix of deeply personal compositions that would eventually comprise Amnesty, Anna Moss’s solo debut LP released in March 2024 via Empire Records.

After touring as the Emmitt-Nershi band with Billy Nershi of The String Cheese Incident for the past year and making several reunion appearances with Leftover Salmon, Long Road finds Emmitt rejuvenated and once again taking the contemporary, live gig, fresh everytime approach to bluegrass music.

Shaina Shepherd

Shaina Shepherd

Shaina Shepherd is a singer, songwriter, vocal teacher, and community organizer in Seattle, WA. Known for her pervasive style as front-woman to soul-grunge band BEARAXE, her notable vocal stylings have brought her into various creative spaces — from collaborating with Duff McKagan, Chong The Nomad and Acid Tongue to sharing stages with rock stars like Dave Matthews and Thunderpussy to being a soloist with the classical ensembles around the country. Inspired by the parallels between gospel and garbage metal, Shaina Shepherd is not your average vocalist. Living in the city where both Soundgarden and Quincy Jones cut their teeth, Shaina lends her soulful voice to projects of all genres.

Inspired by Nina Simone’s commitment to representing the times with the ivories at her fingers, Shaina Shepherd tells heartfelt stories of love, loss, and personal power. She describes herself as an anthem artist translating pivotal moments in human history through her unique form of poetry. Her biggest inspirations are often from Mark Twain, James Weldoyn Johnson, Maya Angelou. A teacher at heart, Shaina’s songs often include a moment of audience interaction or shared moments of reflection in the room. Her dynamic vocal combines the power of theater with the tender introspection of American folk music in a commitment to every song, story, and note being real, raw, and present.

Shaina grew up around gospel music and not much else. She would watch her mother sing with the church choir and emulate the steady richness of her tone. Her passion for vocal technique led her to opera, then to musical theater, and then right back to opera. Shaina studied and worked in the classical music world for many years before finding her sound as a singer and songwriter. After graduating from New York University, she was immersed in the symphony world as an administrator — working closely with classical musicians. This experience inspired her to pick an instrument and realize there are no limitations in creativity. She started playing the piano in November 2017. While finding her voice on the piano, she was finding her voice as the lead singer of Seattle prog-rock and soul band BEARAXE. BEARAXE has allowed Shepherd to hone her craft as a gospel-influenced rock artist exploring classicism, sexism, and self-care themes. And as her relationship with the piano grew, she began to weave similar themes through a lens of vulnerability and thematic strong structures akin to the operas and oratorios she studied as a new musician. Shaina’s influences include Fanny, Kurt Carr, Jeff Buckley, Leontyne Price, Quincy Jones, and above all others, Nina Simone.

Shaina is also the co-founder of The Artist Reclamation Movement, or The ARM, an organization working to reclaim the artist industry to serve the creators first, shift the culture at large to respect the contributions of creative professionals, and work to build up an artistic middle class.

Brad Parsons

Brad Parsons

Brad Parsons was born in the low desert Lewis Clark valley tucked in the border of Washington and Idaho. He grew up and learned the ways of the Lord from his daddy who spent his Sundays behind the pulpit. As well as the good word, in church Parsons also learned the power of communicating with others through music. He went faithfully each Sunday and sang to his fathers congregation from the old hymns and gospel standards.

Growing up and away from the music of the old gospel and diving into the secular classics forbidden to him in his youth, Parsons left the church to pursue music free from the boundaries his religion put on him. In 2008 he moved to Portland, OR and entrenched himself in the burgeoning Americana scene expanding his roots to rock, bluegrass and country music. The next few were years spent traveling, busking on street corners and playing in dive bars. This led to a stint with the band Horse Feathers. He toured with them for three years as a multi instrumentalist and recorded with them on their album “So It Is With Us”.

In 2016, he compiled songs he had written in vans, spare bedrooms and on front porches and enlisted co producer and engineer Tyler Thompson(Fruition, TK & The Holy Know Nothings) to make his first full length record. He recorded with various musicians in studios in Colorado and Oregon to make “Hold True”. The album mixed heartbreak and haunting social commentary with Parsons’s wry sense of humor. He toured throughout the country and became a yearly mainstay at festivals like Northwest String Summit and Sawtooth Valley Gathering. He relocated to Atlanta, GA where hope the high temperatures would stoke the heat within his heart. His time in Atlanta led to “The Starbird Sessions” , another collaboration with Tyler Thompson recorded at Studio 110 in Pittsburgh, PA and released in 2020.

Parsons has collaborated with Bart Budwig, John Craigie, Fruition, Cabinet and numerous others throughout his career. He has written, co-written and produced dozens of tracks while earning a reputation as a talented songwriter and dynamic live performer. He is like a warm shoulder to cry on in a cold and weary world.

Hillfolk Noir

Hillfolk Noir

Built on more than 15 years of “junkerdash” tradition, Hillfolk takes their acoustic guitar, double bass, and “anything you can find at a hardware store” sound and integrates driving drums and an electrified sound. From mountains of frontman Travis Ward’s ragged, spiral-bound notebooks this Boise, Idaho-based band tells earnest stories about the lives of lovers, law-breakers, and the lion-hearted. “If John Steinbeck owned a speakeasy,” said John Doe (X, the Knitters), “Hillfolk Noir would be the house band.”

Molly Sides

Molly Sides

Molly Sides could tell you something about it - she took the power and beauty of her childhood home and used it to fuel her thunderous rise into 21st century rock-and-roll stardom. Here's some of her background as explained by Sun Valley Magazine: "Sides is a born and raised Blaine County artist; dance and movement are in her DNA. While her lure to the arts is genetic, her range of talent manifested in Sun Valley. After spending her childhood playing “fairies” in the Sawtooth forests and writing songs with sticks into rocky mountain dirt, Sides owes much of her creative approach to art to her relationship with Sun Valley’s landscape.

“I feel so connected to that place, to the water and the mountains and the plants. Having space to cultivate your inner imagination was huge for me,” Sides says. “A lot of what I do through movement and music is connected to mother nature, to the source, to the elements.”

High Pine Whiskey Yell

High Pine Whiskey Yell

Born out of a desperate need for craft beer, deep powder, plastic jug moonshine, fast-moving rivers, and a deep-seated fear that artificial intelligence will ruin hard-driving bluegrass... High Pine Whiskey Yell came together as a band in 2018 and released its first EP (The Orchard Sessions) in 2019.  Its newest album "Garden City Double-Wide" was released June 2021 and continues to build on the band's Idaho roots.

This five-piece group of modern-day rounders focuses on telling true stories about robots taking your job, banksters robbing from the poor, the trials of gold panning in Idaho, skiing/riding deep powder, UFOs, and a few other traditional bluegrass subjects (such as murder, drinking, and dogs).

Bringing experience from a multitude of projects, this Idaho string band is sure to win you over with its take on bluegrass and the Americana tradition. Its members have played in numerous bands and projects throughout the years incorporating those experiences into Idaho storytelling that is High Pine Whiskey Yell.  Providing support for groups such as The Lil Smokies, Pixie and the Party Grass Boys, Laney Lou and the Bird Dogs, Boot Juice and numerous others... these fellas know how to bring the party.

Scotty Tyler's mandolin playing is aggressive enough to land an Idaho brown trout, yet soothing enough pacify a wookie in a festival hammock. Austin Clark's wielding of the fiddle is nothing short of broadsword-esque and captures the true essence of the fiddle's spirit animal (jaguar-rattlesnake).  Don Hurda's guitar flat-picking could woo even the most elusive of Idaho sasquatches out of the woods. Mike Murry's dobro playing has been known spin festival goers into a three day dance-trance.  And Chad Lamer's upright bass playing... well let's just say they sometimes give him water, beer, and let him ride inside the truck.

With all that in mind... if you like having a damn good time... then High Pine Whiskey Yell is your new band!

Izzy isn’t just a performer; she is a heroine of our origin story. She was with us in year one at Pioneer Park, reminding us why we believe in music — and why this mountain gathering is pure magic.

A singer/songwriter, professional procrastinator, and cat extraordinaire (her words, not ours), Izzy brings heart, humor, and a soul-deep honesty to every song. Having her back home in the most beautiful place in the world? It just feels right. We can hardly wait for you to feel it too.

Boise Rock School

Boise Rock School

What Makes Boise Rock School Different

Since its inception in 2008, Boise Rock School has been led by the belief that the best way to get individuals excited about learning music is to have them play in a group. We believe the band setting, coupled with a strong curriculum and student-chosen songs, achieves better results than any other teaching method.

In addition to helping students achieve musical excellence, the band setting also encourages essential life skills such as group problem solving, compromise, and the value of positive social interactions.

Boise Rock School is so much more than just a place where students learn to play their instruments. We teach our students how to play songs (cover tunes of their choice in all genres and originally penned compositions), how to record those songs, how to perform those songs at a gig, and how to use those songs as an inspirational and exciting tool to contribute to our community.

We believe giving every student at Boise Rock School the opportunity to perform and share their musical accomplishments with an audience is a valuable and rewarding experience for everyone. In short, we develop the total musician.

From proper technique to creativity and songwriting, from music theory to listening and problem solving skills, we help students — both kids and adults — not only become better musicians, but better people.

Their horn section hits hard with bold, brass-driven grooves that amp up every track. Known for their original music, Kota Dosa mixes their own songs with their favorite influences from across genres. Whether tearing up big stages or bringing their creative energy to rainy streets and front porches, they own every crowd, proving their versatility in any setting. Each performance is unique and sticks with you long after the lights go down.

Chris Cullinan Sawtooth Family Jam

Chris Cullinan Sawtooth Family Jam

And then there’s the Sawtooth Family Jam — Chris’s Cullinan’s ever-evolving collaboration of festival favorites, local legends, and longtime friends who join forces for a set that’s all soul, spontaneity, and heart. One part jam session, one part family reunion, one part “wait, is that so-and-so on stage right now?!” Every year the lineup shifts, the sound shape-shifts, and the crowd ends up dancing for joy and singing along. If you’ve seen it, you know.

Neal Goldberg & Friends (Late Night)

Neal Goldberg & Friends (Late Night)

Neal Goldberg is a guitarist and singer-songwriter upholding the spirit of a vagabond and storyteller. He’s played in cafe’s, clubs, bar’s, street corners and amphitheater’s on 4 different continents.

Edgy, raw and spontaneous, Neal’s original songs are about heartache, failure, love, and home, all mixed in with the current socio-economic pressures of the times.

A composer, arranger, producer, teacher and most of all, a performer, Neal has been playing for over 20 years. A distinct blend of old school blues, jazz and American folk, his guitar-playing has infamously made many cry in joy.
